We are out! Lucy was able to clear the chemo out of her system very quickly so they released us a day early. I am constantly amazed at how well Lucy body has handled these treatments. Everytime in so many different ways she has defyed expectations and recovered faster than the doctors expected. There is no doubt that this can be attributed to our Good Father and his gracious answering of the countless prayers being offered up for Lucy. What a beautiful thing!
This chemo session went relatively well. Lucy had a little trouble emotionally with waking up from anesthesia after her last lumbar puncture. But thankfully she recovered after an hour or so and was fine the rest of the time. The chemo definitely messed with her stomach and her energy level and the steroids are messing with her head, but compared to what we've gone through before, this went very smoothly.
Please be praying for Lucy as she finishes her steroids. She has 5 more days of them. She really doesn't like swallowing pills because it has made her throw up in the past. But like the little warrior she is she is fighting through it.
Because this was just "maintenance chemo", we aren't expecting her numbers to drop quite as dramatically. That means I don't need to give her a shot everyday and we can do one appointment per week instead of two. This is so exciting. This break will hopefully be so much more relaxed. And we will be able to enjoy Christmas as a family at home!
Speaking of Christmas, the Children's Cancer Network adopted our family for Christmas. Yesterday they filled our car with gifts bought specifically for each of the five of us. It is so nice to know we will have amazing Christmas presents without all the stress. We are overwhelmed with gratitude.
We have so many things to be thankful for, including all of you wonderful, supportive people!
Prayer needs:
- Strength and courage for Lucy as she struggles to take all of her steroid pills for the next 4 days.
- For protection for her body from the emotional effects of steroids
- For quality stress free family time during this break.
- For spiritual rejuvenation for all of us as we start to resume regular life on somewhat empty tanks
- For us to be good stewards of all we've been given
I'm with Aunt Ruth Anne and Harry on Christmas Eve afternoon and I just read her your updates on Lucy's journey. So thankful for encouraging updates. Love Aunt Martha
