Lucy made a friend! There is another little girl a year younger than Lucy that has just started chemo. Her name is Piper. She and Lucy have been able to play together over the past several days. It has been so good to see them able to be kids again. It has also been neat to provide a bit of comfort and guidance to a family on the beginning of the chemo journey. They are such a sweet family. We are hoping that we will be able to connect with them again.
Lord willing, we will be discharged today! Lucy is supposed to finish up her chemo for this round at 10 am this morning.
Unfortunately, one of the side effects of the new chemo from this round is a rash. Poor Lucy had her whole torso bright red and really itchy yesterday. With Benadryl causing some bad mood swings we weren't sure if there was anything we could do for her. But thankfully the doctors were able to find a cream and a different medication, hydroxyzine, that worked without side effects. The rash is supposed to go away soon after the chemo stops so hopefully that is the case.
We are so incredibly thankful for the excellent medical care we are getting, especially our amazing doctors. The doctor assigned to our case is our favorite and we are so impressed with how friendly and helpful he is. He patiently answers all of my questions, which is quite the feat. And he let Lucy squirt him with water!
Being discharged is always a mixed blessing. It's wonderful to be out of the hospital, but it is also a bit scary knowing that something can easily go wrong and we will have to catch it in time. Lucy's blood counts will once again be dropping over the next week, making her vulnerable to infection, internal bleeding and passing out, etc. So please be praying for her protection. And for me to have faith in God's hand over everything.
Thank you again so much for your prayers and support!!! We are so thankful for all of you. It is a beautiful thing to see our great God work though you and through this situation!
Prayer needs:
- For Lucy's new friend Piper and her family. For healing, strength, and a strong faith through this trial
- For protection for Lucy during this break
- For wisdom for us as we figure out when to travel to Flagstaff and what to do
- For Lucy's birthday to be special despite the craziness and her exhausted parents
- For strength and renewal for all those helping us and good relations between all of us
- For Lucy's body to continue to handle everything well and recover quickly
A splash of fun:
One of the nurses here at Banner Desert taught Lucy that she could squirt water from a syringe (with no needle) at the nurses that come in. On Saturday she took it to the next level with Lucy and her new friend. The girls went for a walk and the nurse told the girls where to hide while she lured her nurse friends to walk by. Then on her signal the girls got to attack with their syringe squirt guns. The girls had so much fun. They were giggling like crazy. It was so good to see.
Praying for you all
I just finished reading the entire journal available and cried tears of heartache and joy for your family. Such an amazing little girl, your Lucy is! I wish I would have known sooner but to read this all now has lead me to a better place! Her story and yours will touch so many peoples lives! We are now praying for your sweet Lucy and her friend, as well as your family too! May the Lord Jesus bring good fruit from this situation and bless thousands with faith and hope!
Very good nurse!
